Support Your Friendly Filmmaker / Low Budget Filmmaking
At the Berlin Film Festival last year I got to spend some time with the lovely and talented Jay Duplass, whose short film The Intervention was competing against Killing The Afternoon for a Golden Bear. A fun-filled week of films and Berliner Pils were to be had before the judges announced their decisions. Both Margaret & Jay lost out to equally talented and lovely Peter Mackie Burns for Milk but Jay did get the consolation of the Silver Bear. We were consoled by the free drink. If you are interested in what a Silver Bear looks like, here is Jay with his.
Jay recently e-mailed me saying that his low budget feature The Puffy Chair (which was a sensation at Sundance) has finally been given a theatrical release. I don't know yet if it will be shown here in Ireland although it may be the type of film that might make it to the Kino. For anyone out there who doesn't have big bucks to make your masterpiece, Jay Duplass is a bit of an inspiration. You can read a review of The Puffy Chair here.
You can watch the trailer and see some of Jay's short films (including The Intervention) at their official website and you can read an interview with Jay on Cinematical.
